Project Update

From the start of the project zone at Nursery Street right up to Weedon Street at Jessops Riverside, the majority of flood defence construction work is complete save for a section within Forgemasters, a piece of work at Riley’s, some finishing works at Sanderson’s Goyt along Brightside lane, and some smaller pieces of finishing works elsewhere.

Work is ongoing along Meadowhall Road where construction progress has been hampered by unexpectedly poor ground conditions. There is now weekend work underway to speed up the piling operation in the sections where progress has been particularly slow. The new flood defence wall is taking shape at certain points along that stretch and is visible from the road. Once constructed, the concrete wall will be clad with bricks on both sides.

Until further notice, traffic management will remain in place restricting the flow to one lane each way and Hadfield Bridge remains closed for safety reasons whilst work continues.

The River Stewardship Company is delivering phase one of its non-native invasive species programme, initially dealing with Himalayan Balsam and Giant Hogweed and then progressing to treat Japanese Knotweed. Numbers on volunteer days have continued to be boosted by corporate volunteer teams who have joined in with litter picking, debris collection from the river and pulling up Himalayan Balsam. Contact the RSC for information on how to volunteer.
