Project Update

The Council’s Street’s Ahead programme partner, Amey, has been appointed to carry out snagging on the finishing and defect works which were outstanding when Carillion entered liquidation. This work is due to be completed by April 2019.

Channel Maintenance

The River Stewardship Company’s channel maintenance regime has continued through the winter with regular volunteer days through the full project reach. A final schedule of tree management works is currently underway to trim or remove crack willows which are at risk of falling into the river and causing a blockage in the channel.

Long Term Channel Maintenance – Shoal Management Feasibility Study

ARUP have been commissioned by the Council to carry out this work which will seek to identify locations that are most susceptible to silt collecting (effectively raising the river bed level and thus causing water levels to rise higher and quicker) and to define strategies for managing such formations. A questionnaire has been issued to local businesses and is available on this website, asking people in the BID area for their observations and thoughts to glean local knowledge and intelligence which can assist the study.

Operation of moveable flood defences

Amey has also been appointed for emergency response services to ensure flood gates and doors are closed in the event of a flood warning. Two emergency test exercises have been completed successfully in the past year.

Business Improvement District

The Business Improvement District will come to an end on 30th June 2019. Attention is currently focused on managing the above activities within the remaining budget and to put in place arrangements to sustain the benefits delivered by the BID in the long term beyond its close. A final Annual Update Meeting will take place in the autumn of this year to report on year 5 performance and the final position of the BID as a whole
