Programme of Works

Once the funding package for the project was secured, design work progressed apace and plans for all the interventions have been agreed by the Council, its appointed contractor, Carillion, and Environment Agency advisors.

On-site intrusive investigation work was carried out during November and December 2014 and into early 2015 in preparation for the main programme of works which began in Autumn 2015. The expected completion date is Autumn 2017.

Over 50 interventions will be installed along an 8km stretch of the River Don between Nursery St and Blackburn Brook. Further detail about these works can be found hereMaps detailing where the interventions are located can be viewed – Plan 1 & Plan 2.

The contract for river channel maintenance, a key element of the project, was let to the Sheffield-based River Stewardship Company as an initial 18 month pilot. Work started in July 2014, including treatment of invasive species, tree management, and litter and debris removal along the river – for more information on scope of river channel maintenance click here

This scope of works was produced following the first 12 months of the pilot in order to confirm an appropriate and affordable brief for the remainder of the five year BID term. The contract for the remaining term of the BID was awarded to the River Stewardship Company following a competitive tender process in late 2015.
